About the project
During October 2022, Indigenous Australian musician Jessie Lloyd undertook a residency in Brixton, working with the community to discover songs and stories from the 75 years that have passed since the Windrush brought the first post-war migrants to London from the Caribbean. Applying the methodology she evolved to work with Indigenous Elders in her MISSION SONGS project, and collaborating with Brixton-born artist Tony Cealy, Jessie explored the commonalities of experience between Indigenous Australians and Black Britons, using music to commemorate local heritage, within global histories of racism and emerging processes of reconciliation. Jessie’s grandfather Albie Geia was a leader in the 1957 Palm Island Strike, which, like the events in Brixton in 1981, were labelled ‘riots’, leading to Albie’s imprisonment.
ORIGINS commissioned Brixton-based sound artist, Thor McIntyre-Burnie, and his public arts company Aswarm, to respond to Jessie’s residency; creating a site-specific, immersive experience that weaves the songs through the streets of Brixton and uncovers their extraordinary stories. The result is this immersive, interactive audio-walk, accessed through AswarmXR’s mobile app.
Starting near Brixton tube, you can take an hour’s walk through the streets, which become enlivened and theatrical through the music, voices and stories of local people. When you come out of the tube, turn right and start the app by the two large trees about 30 yards away!

I must turn this around so Nationwide is aware that I refuse to accept the TOKENISM contained herein. I do not feel that I am being treated fairly by Nationwide in line with the STATEMENT “As a building society, we are owned by our members – those customers who bank, save or have a mortgage with us. That includes you, which is why you have a vote at our Annual General Meeting (AGM). Please find attached my arguments in my complaint to the FOS.

How can I be happy with the resolutions and candidates if the staff in the Brixton Branch colluded to DEFAME my NAME and CHARACTER? So, why should I be interested in giving people POWER to DESTROY me using my DISABILITIES in making me a VULNERABLE, VOICELESS, VICTIM why I have invested in my https://fight4justiceadvocacy.business.site. Only a mutual can reward members in this way. I am sceptical about this reward. Was Nationwide aware that my husband was celebrating his 100th birthday on International Women’s Day? In the future, the Board will annually consider whether our financial performance and capital strength justify further distributions. Whilst there can be no certainty of future distributions, your Board’s desire is that The Nationwide Fairer Share rewards eligible members in the future. I am sceptical about this because Nationwide threatens to deny me my rights and DEFAMED my NAME. As part of our enduring commitment to deliver value to our members, in May this year we also introduced the Nationwide Fairer Share Bond, a fixed rate savings account available to eligible existing members. How ironic that Nationwide set about targeting me in May.

Another SM break b4 Bed! Now it’s the turn of my Sister YVONNE only Papa used to say You-Vonnie. What did I know about my Sister? Absolutely except Papa talking about You-Vonnie which was not of much interests to me at the time. But then YVONNE became of much interests when I was clearing GanGan House & came across all these Birth Certificates including my Sisters. The others of interests were for Saunders Roy & Joyce.
Everything was pushed at the back of my mind for the next 30+ years until I came across more Papers when I a clearing out Mama’s House. Wow I came across a Treasure Throve, that practically told me most of my History. Any how I must thank big breda Mass Balis & Ms Connie for filling most of the blanks. I already had most of Papa’s History, but not much of Mama’s.
I only realised how certain things were important to my Mama when she told me about the Banny/Claudie Boys Spanish- Panyah Jar story. Yes it was true or Mama would not have told me. Mama did not talk much about her History but Papa did.
So back to my Sister Yvonne who was born November 1948 & lived to age 5 or 6 according to breda B. She died in the arms of her Cancer striken Grandfather Mass Claudius of an Epileptic Fit or Siezures as some called it & I am sure there might have been talk bout Duppy too?
Mass B said they called her White Woman & I know for obvious reasons. She was one of the High Coloured ones in our Family. So if she had lived we would be chalk & cheese & probably beautiful & petite like Papa? Well she never survived & I did miss having my Big Sister YVONNE to share those Girlie Growing Moments with. I loved every moments growing up as Little & Big Sister anyway.
Gosh I wished I knew more about my Sister YVONNE, but I will have to be satisfied with what Big Breda Mass Balis told me. Know some will or some won’t understand why I have to come write Gibberish, but this is my outlet… All the BOOKS I have in me I am not sure any will get written. So when U get supn fi Free, mi aguh mek use a it?
When U start wondering yes they are my 2 Sons. We have Multiply Identities like the JA Motto Out of many one People – Legister/Murray/NEMBHARD. Family are a Blessing. Hope my LB is taking Lessons in FH from BS? Love all my FAMILY/Friends with Genuine LOVE 101%. Please don’t ask me how to work it out or I might have to be biased?

How z fuck, I stop seeing some people posts? Facebook only show me mine that they think I have money to waste for adverts. Maybe block out those who don’t….?

Now I am back battling Criminals with my Fight4justice campaign.

I am dedicating thius month to celebrating my #MOTHER, so whenever other issues will cloud my judgements, I have no alternatives than to tune out. I know my #Mama is proud of me for the way I am conducting myself and so is my #Papa. I won’t tell anyone it’s easy, but life is what we make it anyhow.
I am well tuned in to my life and that’s why I am trying to make the most of what I have got. So I owe a duty of care to my #Husband, like my Mother did to my Father. I will live up to my responsibilities to honour the #LOVE shared by my Parents.
I don’t know what the future holds, but I can just take it one day at a time.
So hey I am my Tom’s Carer and that’s why I am at this time tuned in to his every moan and groan as I carry out my duty. The events leading up to Mama’s death are very uncanny and transported me back to my Papa’s death in 1980. I was the last to see my Papa alive when I went into the room to greet him before taking my baby for a walk to get fresh air. Strangely enough when I got back from the walk and went in to find Papa dead and called Mama. She did not believe he was dead and when she came to the first thing she said “he never got any WATER…”
After my Race for Life walk for Cancer Research, I was fooling around on SM when I was overwhelmed by this strange feeling that caused the Tears to start and wouldn’t stop. So I went to bed, got up next morning and was working with Tom in the back garden. Balis called and updated me about Mama and I was not bothered like was usual. The blessed thing about that call from Balis is the fact that I heard Mama’s voice for the very last time. Balis said “Mama talk to your daughter nuh…” I could hear her in the background saying “ehn-hn…” over and over again! Then Andrea called and we chatted about everything including Mama, Ms Deans and Ms Lou… Nathan passed and Andrea asked if he wanted to speak to her auntie and Mass Papa Son said “not now”! I jokingly said to Andrea that he did not want to speak to me because I might ask him when they are getting married!
Throughout the day I was just tired, but I kept going until I retired to bed from sheer exhaustion. I already told my family I don’t answer phone after certain hours because it upsets my rest, so they can always leave a message if there is an emergency. The ringing of the phone got me out of my deep sleep and I automatically looked across at the clock. It was 12.20 and Dostan told me what was happening with Mama. I told him to keep me informed and went back to sleep. The phone rang again and Dostan said Mama was put in the vehicle, but it don’t make any sense so she was taken back out again. I knew this was the end of the road for Mama as she had decided to retire from all her life’s journeys. I got out of bed, called my Little Breda’s home and told them Mama was on her way home.
When I spoke to Andrea last night she told me about the poignant last moments that Mama had surrounded by her family as she entered the Promise Land relived of sufferings. Balis gave her 4 spoons of water and told her now you can’t say you did not get any water? Kadene prayed for Mama and she said “Amen”, so that means she was alert until the very last. Then she went off peacefully to sleep and be with her Maker. It really touched my heart and soul to know that Mama stuck to Christian faith until she drew her last breathe.
Mama was born into a Family who upheld Christian principles and values in 1924. She was christened, married and baptised at the Townhead Baptist Church and her children after her were also christened there. Mama will be having her final leg of her Home Coming Service at the Townhead Baptist Church where she fellowshipped with many from the communities. One of Mama’s favourite song was – “When Once I Found a Mothers’ Church…” Mama was born a Baptist, lived her life as a Baptist and died a Baptist and will be buried a Baptist! RIP Pearline Louise Chambers-Nembhard as we will soon come together to celebrate the life of one remarkable Woman who was Our Mother, Grand Mother, Great Grand, Auntie, Cousin, Friend, God Mother and all round Unique Individual who was put on this earth for a special purpose. You have fulfilled your roles and responsibilities and now gone on before Us to take your Rest!

The Grimeborn Opera Festival returns to Arcola for the sixteenth year with twelve operas from across the globe. Featuring the UK stage premiere of the long-lost baroque opera Loyola (11 – 12 Aug) by Jesuit composer Domenico Zipoli, placed in a contemporary setting by our very own director Michael Walling. The central role is sung by Indigenous tenor Rafael Montero, who caused a stir at our British Museum event CELEBRATING PERU last year.

A 90-year-old black woman was handcuffed and had a spit hood placed over her head and a Taser pointed at her by the Metropolitan police.
The woman was reportedly left with cuts and bruises to her wrists and one of her arms after being restrained at her home in Peckham, south-east London, on 9 May.
She was handcuffed behind her back, had a mesh spit hood placed over her head and a Taser trained on her before she was taken to hospital without being arrested.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the incident. One officer has been suspended and barred from using a Taser, while five others have been placed on restricted duties so they have no contact with the public.
The Met said officers were called to an address in SE15 on 9 May after reports of a disturbance between a woman and her carer.
A spokesperson said: “The Met officers attended and identified a 90-year-old lady, who was distressed. After officers attempted to engage with her, she was restrained using handcuffs and a spit hood applied after it was alleged one officer was spat at. The woman was then taken to hospital. She was not arrested.
“During the course of the incident, an officer issued a red-dot challenge with their Taser but did not discharge it.”
The IOPC launched an investigation on 17 May after the Met’s directorate of professional standards referred the case to the watchdog. A family member of the woman has been allowed to watch footage of what happened from the officers’ body-worn video cameras.
DCS Seb Adjei-Addoh, who is in charge of policing in the borough of Southwark, said the incident raised a number of questions.
“There are limits to what I am able to say in relation to this incident given it is now subject to an IOPC investigation. However, it is clear that this will have been a distressing experience for the lady involved and that the circumstances raise a number of questions that need to be answered,” he said.
“While I do not wish to pre-judge this process, officers know that they must be able to justify any use of force or restraint and we will expect that of the officers involved in this incident. They also know that we expect them to show compassion and to adjust their approach in real time according to the circumstances they are faced with.”
An IOPC spokesperson confirmed it was investigating and added: “We have also received a public complaint concerning the level of force that was used and the injuries it is alleged the woman sustained, including cuts and bruising on both her wrists and one arm. We have been in touch with the woman’s family to explain our role.”

Thanks for your decision, but I think it would be remiss of me not to address the contradictions in your decision and how this decision was made. You and I did not discuss most of what you made the DECISION about. You said you would call me back, so I don’t understand the conclusion.

Because when I raised the questions to the person who mysteriously appeared from break about what happened to our SAVINGS, she reassured my husband his accounts would not be affected. Nationwide did not address the warning threatening letter to me as if it is a “Joint Account”. The person I spoke to refused to answer my questions.

I am the person who asked the Person serving me to let me put the transaction through and I would bring the ID next day.
There was nothing about trying to bypass the system. Person I spoke to said she identified me as a “REGULAR CUSTOMER”.
The transaction went through until I was told there was no such account
She then read me some instructions about what happened if I go ahead with the transaction
Then she asked if I still want to go through with the transaction
I did not shout and yell at the cashier, I told her the person for the transaction live local, I will go and get her
I only spoken to the black man who was ridiculing me
How did the cashier get to the point of making the transaction when she said there was no such account?
Was the cashier upset because I refused to allow her to put the transaction into an account she said did not exist?
The person who I spoke to on Monday 15/5/2023 said she was the witness who filed the report
She said she was the person who identified me as a “REGULAR CUSTOMER”
Why was she not concerned about the behaviour of a REGULAR CUSTOMER knowing Mr. Arnold Tomlinson is 100 years old?

The question Nationwide need to answer is why was nothing said to me when I returned with the person for whom the transaction was to go to?
Nationwide continues to contradict the matter and making the situation blown out of all proportion with blacklisting and networking against me

When I spoke to the person, she claimed I should not be at Nationwide about the letter, but this was not made clear for me to understand.
Nationwide must provide evidence of my ACTIONS that cause Nationwide to threaten to close my account
I explained why I had to take out the JOINT ACCOUNT with my HUSBAND.
The THREATS to close my ACCOUNT is a deliberate act of breaching my RIGHTS under the Equality Act 2010 Protected Characteristics being the CARER for Mr. Arnold Ebenezer Tomlinson.

Exceptional circumstances
I am carer who have mental and physical impairments for my 100 year old husband.
Thank you for speaking to me recently. I’m just writing to confirm some of the things we talked about and to send you our decision in writing.
Our Decision
I’m really sorry that you’ve raised the following things:-
You’ve asked why your allowed to visit Brixton Branch shortly after getting a warning letter from us.
You want to know what accounts both you and your husband hold with Nationwide.
The threat of closing your account is clear evidence that Nationwide intends to steal your money.
You’re not happy that your photo will be made public on your profile.
You want a written apology and compensation for everything that Nationwide has done to you.
However, I’m afraid I can’t agree that we’ve done anything wrong.
How did we reach our decision?
To reach this decision, I’ve read all the statements following your visit to our Brixton Branch. You wanted to make a bill payment for £5,000 over the counter but the system required additional ID. As you didn’t have this on you at the time the cashier tried to bypass the system, but at that stage you started shouting and yelling at the cashier and also swearing at other customers. Despite the cashier managing to get to the point of making the payment you continued to swear and shout and then left the branch. This left the cashier and other members of staff and customers shocked and upset.
Therefore we were correct in giving you the warning but this didn’t mean you couldn’t continue to visit branch it just means that if you were to act like this again we would look to close your accounts with us.
You’ve asked what accounts you hold jointly with your husband, I can confirm that these are; Flexaccount ending 5981; 1.40% 2yr FRB (A) ending 5839; 1% 2yr FRB (A) ending 0613;
If any of your accounts were to be closed we would write to let you know and give you information on how to do a SWITCH OUT to another account or send you a cheque for the balances that remain in your accounts when we close them. As we follow the rules of the Financial Conduct Authority we wouldn’t be allowed to steal anyone’s money.
An alert on your account is something that’s written on your account to tell staff that a warning has been given to you. It’s not a photo of any kind so it doesn’t breach any laws, legislations, codes of conduct or malpractices.
I’m sorry but we won’t be in a position to offer you compensation nor a written apology. Neither are we responsible for how you’ve been treated in the past by Barclays Bank, Santander, the Police Force or any other criminal cases you’ve raised.
The £100 Nationwide Fairer Share payment is not compensation towards your complaint but as a result of profits made by Nationwide during the last financial year. As a building society, and not a bank, we can do things a little differently, like share profits with our members. We’ve given members £100 as part of our ongoing commitment to you all. Members need a current account plus either a savings account or mortgage account to qualify for this payment. As you and your husband have both, this is why you’ve received this payment if you don’t wish to receive it please let us know.
