Led by the knowledge of Black Brixtonites, we journey into the heart and fire of what empowers this unique place.
Once downloaded head to the starting point of the walk which is 30 yards to the right on exiting Brixton Tube station (Near Pret) 419 Brixton Road, Brixton, London, SW9 8HE / GPS coordinates: 51.463087, -0.114776).
Once there, open Aswarm XR app and click on “SONGSTREETS” from the menu. (Note: The App may take 1-5 mins to download & open).

About the project
During October 2022, Indigenous Australian musician Jessie Lloyd undertook a residency in Brixton, working with the community to discover songs and stories from the 75 years that have passed since the Windrush brought the first post-war migrants to London from the Caribbean. Applying the methodology she evolved to work with Indigenous Elders in her MISSION SONGS project, and collaborating with Brixton-born artist Tony Cealy, Jessie explored the commonalities of experience between Indigenous Australians and Black Britons, using music to commemorate local heritage, within global histories of racism and emerging processes of reconciliation. Jessie’s grandfather Albie Geia was a leader in the 1957 Palm Island Strike, which, like the events in Brixton in 1981, were labelled ‘riots’, leading to Albie’s imprisonment.
ORIGINS commissioned Brixton-based sound artist, Thor McIntyre-Burnie, and his public arts company Aswarm, to respond to Jessie’s residency; creating a site-specific, immersive experience that weaves the songs through the streets of Brixton and uncovers their extraordinary stories. The result is this immersive, interactive audio-walk, accessed through AswarmXR’s mobile app.
Starting near Brixton tube, you can take an hour’s walk through the streets, which become enlivened and theatrical through the music, voices and stories of local people. When you come out of the tube, turn right and start the app by the two large trees about 30 yards away!
A whole host of incredibly talented people contributed to Songstreets in many ways: some composed new songs, some offered their own renditions of songs they felt were relevant to contribute, some added choral layers to group numbers and others contributed spoken stories or thoughts and reflections that left ripples.. all left footprints that resonated in these streets and it is to them we owe this piece.

Seven Resourcing are looking for a Temporary Early Years Practitioner to work with the Education Service in Camden. This position is initially for a period of a couple of months and is paying £18.63 per hour (paid to you via an umbrella company). The Council are looking for someone who can work 20 hours per week during term time – working Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm Key Responsibilities:
To work as part of a team in small, busy, vibrant Nursery, for children aged 2 and 3 years old.
To provide high quality integrated day care and early education within a multi-disciplinary team and in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
To contribute to planning and support delivery of a high-quality early years curriculum, which includes a full commitment to anti-discriminatory practice. This will include daily, weekly and termly planning to meet individual children’s needs and interests and record keeping that tracks the development of the individual child.
To promote children’s development within a secure, safe and stimulating environment, and with reference to good practice curriculum guidance appropriate to the ages and stages of development of the children.
To provide input to the assessment of children’s overall development, including carrying out observations, recording children’s achievement, and maintaining developmental records to a high standard.
To support colleagues in undertaking their responsibilities as key worker to a specific group of children within the centre and the smooth transition from home to centre and from centre to school.
To effectively manage the behaviour of the children in line with procedural guidance and to implement planned interventions for children with additional needs.
To provide appropriate physical care in areas of washing, toileting, changing, feeding, dressing, comforting and administering medication.
To work with due regard to Child Protection procedures and to report matters of concern to the centre managers.
To assist with the organisation of outings for children’s interest, education and enjoyment and with regard to safety.
There is a requirement to lift and assist in toileting and changing and in helping to transfer from seating to mobility aids. The post will help children to acquire and develop self help skills including toileting and personal hygiene. Work may also involve implementing individual movement programmes, under the direction of other professionals.
Applicant Requirements:
Qualifications: NVQ or degree in Early Years.
Experience: 2+ years working within a similar role.
Compliance: Current DBS check.
Hours: 20 hours p/w.
