My father had a stroke earlier this year and is bedbound and needs 24-hour care. Last month, two online payments from his Santander account were blocked. He was told to call the helpline and asked various security questions.
When he was unable to name a recent transaction, his account was locked and he was told he would have to go into the branch for his identity to be verified. He explained his situation but the agent was uninterested.
Staff at the branch told me their hands were tied and referred me back to the helpline, which, again, confirmed a branch visit was the only solution. It refused our suggestions that his solicitor verify him, that a video call be set up, or that bank staff visit his home.
I will therefore have to book a private ambulance and a carer, which will cost £395. A nurse assessment concluded a wheelchair would be too risky, so we will have to wheel him on a hospital trolley through the pedestrian precinct to the bank.
He is unable to access money to pay his care fees, or even buy his dog’s food. DK, Chichester, West Sussex
I couldn’t quite believe what I was reading at first. I asked you to send me the quote for the ambulance hire to be sure I’d got the facts straight. I had. Santander expected your father to travel five miles to his nearest branch and present himself on a stretcher so they could check he was who he said he was.
To be clear, the bank had frozen his account legitimately. He was attempting two very large payments to new recipients and banks are expected to block and query transactions that seem out of character to protect customers from scams. Banks are held accountable if they fail to prevent fraud, and branch visits may be required to satisfy staff that a payment is genuine.
However, branch closures make them ever more inaccessible, and some customers are physically unable to make the journey. Banks therefore have to balance customer protection with customer need, and vulnerable customers should receive customised support.
My first question to you was whether you held lasting power of attorney (LPA) for your father and so could manage the account on his behalf. You do, and you say you had repeatedly mentioned this to bank staff, but were unaware that the LPA documents have to be registered individually with individual organisations. This process was never mentioned in your conversations with five different Santander agents.
The bank admits your father should have been offered another phone call to verify his identity and that, in some cases, staff can make visits to the customer’s home. It told me that a specialist support team and internal hub were available to employees to help with more complex cases. The agents who dealt with you don’t seem to have availed themselves of either.
The impasse was resolved when you registered your LPA, although it took another two weeks before online banking was fully restored.
Santander says: “A temporary block was placed on this account, as concerns were logged about unusual account activity, and in subsequent phone calls the customer’s identity couldn’t be fully confirmed. There were delays in getting this removed and alternative options should have been offered.
“We recognise we did not get the right balance between fraud prevention and tailoring a solution to the customer’s specific circumstances quickly enough, and we sincerely apologise. We have a range of support options in place for customers which we can tailor to their specific needs, and we will be reminding our teams about these.”
Your father has been offered £750 for the “inconvenience”.
The Financial Conduct Authority, the banking regulator, told me that under its new consumer duty rules, firms must respond flexibly to the needs of vulnerable customers without undermining safeguards.
According to the campaign group Fairer Finance, banks often struggle with this balancing act, mindful of the large payouts they face if they allow an account to be defrauded.
“Large organisations often rely on rigid systems and a ‘computer says no’ approach,” says its managing director, James Daley.
Customers with additional needs, or their representatives, should ensure that their bank register them as vulnerable to help ensure they are treated fairly.
Snapshot of GoPro’s stellar service…
I own a five-year-old GoPro camera, bought from a colleague who received it as a gift and never had proof of purchase. The bracket holding it to my bike’s handlebar broke, and I couldn’t find a replacement on the GoPro website, so asked for a callback. Within 30 minutes, a very helpful person asked me to email a photo of the broken part and agreed to send me, completely free, two replacements. These arrived a few days later. Stellar service. This is to inform those responsible at the Southwark Health Ambassador continuing the Systematic Discrimination of Mervelee Myers that I will be attending this “Coffee Morning” as a RESEARCHER. The purpose of my RESEARCH is to establish how Southwark Council colluded with the Judiciary of England and Wales in the discrimination of Mervelee Myers when I worked at Kings College NHS Foundation Trust after the death of my brother with Colon Cancer.
Since Southwark Health Ambassador failed to contact me since they sent threatening letter inviting me to the “Meeting”, I will make sure the world knows about AKEEMA PAUL. And why I was removed from the WhatsApp Group. Then Southwark Council will answer questions about the role the SEND Section played in the impact on my Mental and Physical Health from 2008.
As for Cancer Awareness training refer to my involvement in Fundraising from my brother died with Colon Cancer. In a nutshell refer to https://fight4justiceadvocacy.business.site for more. I will tell the world about Akeema Paul’s behaviour and compare to the GP Practice. Refer to https://www.facebook.com/groups/RattyNembhard for my 18 Facebook Pages to understand why Southwark Health Ambassadors will issue me with a “Public Apology”.
I just had to under go Colopsy Screening. Check my record and Facebook Pages for more.
Refer to my online Profile for how I have been an INFLUENCER. But AKEEMA Paul and Isabella Hester think they are GOD removing me from the WhatsApp Group. The world will know about them and Ginett Hogan and all the DISCRIMINATORS at Southwark Health Ambassadors.
Now the world must know about the HMCTS and CPS and CJS roles in covering up www.leyf.org.uk and www.uel.ac.uk the ABUSERS Rings of June O’Sullivan and Richard Harty Men in Childcare. Why Mervelee Myers is a Criminal needing Emotional Regulation Treatment. Then www.gov.uk/dbs will be exposed with Ofsted for turning a blind eye to the discrimination of children. Young people and vulnerable adults. You can get copies of my PUBLICATIONS about my “Expert Authority on Subjects from the Cradle to the Grave”. Who is responsible for Mervelee Myers Mental Health? My DBS said I am under Mental Health Requirements. Who is administering that?
8 years after I was denied my ENTITLEMENTS to cover up LEYF PAEDOPHILE RINGS by Richard Harty Men in Childcare I was sent Capability for Work Questionnaire. Now am to go for ASSESSMENT after what DWP and Universal Credit did to me. Stopping my benefits and trying to wipe my Journal of all data. Then www.hfw.org.uk targeted me via my RACIST neighbour. What has Southwark Council done after I contacted them?
The catalogue of DISCRIMINATION after the death of my MPOTHER with DEMENTIA will be part of my RESEARCH.

Cost of Living: Support and Services in Southwark
26 October, 2pm-3pm, online
Southwark Council is hosting an online information session for staff and volunteers working with individuals and families that are likely to be heavily impacted by the cost of living crisis. Join this session to find out more about the support available to the people you are working with. Information will include:
• Finding the right advice and support
• Southwark’s Local Support Team
• Food initiatives
• Fuel/ energy schemes
• Charitable grants
The session will be led by Chloe Harvey, External Opportunities Lead for the Children’s & Adults Directorate, Rebecca Harkes, Public Health Policy Officer, Freya Tracey, Public Health Intelligence Analyst, Eugene Nixon, Head of Strategy & Compliance. Citizen’s Advice Southwark will also join the session.
Background:
The cost of living has been increasing across the UK since early 2021 and in April 2022, inflation reached its highest recorded level. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates that it is now higher than at any time since around 1982, affecting the affordability of goods and services for households. Low-income households spend a larger proportion than average on energy and food so will be more affected by price increases. Approximately 21% of Southwark’s population live in communities ranked within the most deprived nationally.
Book your place here.

Daily Express Russell Grant Taurus: Don’t let a difference of opinion drive a wedge between you and a partner. Although you’re not on the same page, you can reach a compromise. Be flexible so your other half can meet you halfway. Going after a promotion would be a good idea.
Evaluation: How do I read this? Maybe I will have to get #devine intervention? Because I don’t know if my personal problems have taken over my head % and excluding everything else? I guess I will go after the #promotion. I am positive that I can convince JNR to understand that not everything is what it seems through a tinted glass?
LEYF Nurseries – #LEYF is getting away with discrimination by operating Modern Slavery Practices. The Employment Tribunal presi-DEAD over another miscarriage of justice. The establishments and have have been turning a blind eye to Discrimination. Then they get the like of Facebook to radicalise vulnerable people to take away our evidence that we are not #UURICA_LE. I have my Fight4justice campaign.
This might be a #clue to the remainder of my life. I have not worked since the Modern Slavery Practices at LEYF deny me my entitlement to having a job to take care of my basic human rights and needs.
I am challenging the UK government to act now. Don’t let the Employment Tribunal regulations make another employee a victim.
Just walked from the etc venues Monument to my home in Bermondsey. Took me under 1 hour, I’m back in better shape. Just need to get closures from LEYF Nurseries to get on with the rest of my life. Cooling down b4 I get to work on the computer. I am content with the life I have. Take a bit of getting used to still.
I know I’m still in good nick when I can walk from etc. Venues Monument 8 Eastcheap London to Alma Grove Bermondsey in under 1 hour. I am trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle for as long as is effectively possible. Good luck to @leyfonline and the #Establishment and the #Systems. They can’t stop my progress. Who GOD bless, no one curse.
