Thank you for speaking to me recently. I am just writing to confirm the things we talked about and to send you our decision in writing. MM Response: Give credit to this person, but that will not change my opinions of Nationwide acting like JOHNCROWS over DEAD MEAT.

Our decision

I am really sorry you’re unhappy we blocked your debit card as we wanted to check a payment attempted on 7 October 2024 to Amazon music totalling £8.18. MM Response: Nationwide was just doing this to TRIGGER me. The ModdaFuckas will be exposed. How the FUCK they repeatedly blocking my #payments to orders that are set up to pay my bills. However, I am afraid I cannot agree we have done anything wrong, as we reserve the right to block cards and restrict transactions, for the protection of our members and their money to help prevent fraud. MM Response: No Nationwide have done everything wrong since they only started blocking my card in July 2024 and is continuing not paying essential BILLS. I can confirm, this is outlined in the terms and conditions of banking with us, and would have been agreed to when you opened your account. MM Response: Nationwide is acting like the SCAMMERS who targeted me over the years. Nationwide has done nothing but made my MENTAL and PHYSICAL HEALTH skyrocket since they sent me letter in April 2023.

I understand you’re unhappy two separate fraud consultants trying to deal with your query abruptly terminated your calls. Regrettably, having listened to both calls on 13 and 14 October 2024, you raised your voice on several occasions and resorted to using offensive language. MM Response: Since when is raising one’s VOICE a reason for the other party to act like a FUCKING TERRORISTS like the Housing for Women TERRORCELLS coerced Deborah Agnes Gilchrist to target me https://youtu.be/S4JrC-Uqwe0?si=UjX5K7qjRTDV-hfv? Therefore, they acted correctly by ending the call, as we expect our members to be treated with courtesy and respect at all times. MM Response: Nationwide will get lessons about their FRIGGING experts RIGHTS to keep acting like my money belonging to them. So we kindly ask you to refrain from speaking in such a manner in the future. A few weeks ago, we welcomed current and alumni members of our Cancer Insights Panels and Inclusion in Involvement Steering group to Barts Cancer Institute for our annual hybrid social event. It was great to welcome over 40 members and celebrate the impact they’ve had across the work of Cancer Research UK through this reward and recognition event. We’ve received some fantastic feedback and are looking forward to next years event already. Read more about it below.

Spotlight on JESSICA LUONG – Choreographer for THE MOUTH OF THE GODS and co-founder of Baila Peru 

For this newsletter, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on the incredibly talented Jessica Luong, whose choreographic vision is helping shape THE MOUTH OF THE GODS.Weaving Tradition and Contemporary ChoreographyBorn in Lima, Peru, Jessica’s passion for dance was sparked at an early age, thanks to the vibrant music and traditions that were a part of her upbringing. Her mother, Irene Jara, a dedicated social worker and community leader, along with her grandfather, Santiago Jara, a miner and artisan from the Wari culture, helped foster her deep connection to Peru’s heritage. The traditional Bolivian music she was exposed to in her childhood and her mother’s work with refugees played a pivotal role in shaping her artistic identity.At the age of 15, Jessica moved to London, where she co-founded Baila Peru, a dance group dedicated to showcasing Peruvian culture. Drawing inspiration from her memories of dance festivals in the highlands of Peru, she has since brought the spirit of those local traditions to life at major events, including performances at the British Museum, Tate Modern, Somerset House, and of course, with Border Crossings.Now, with THE MOUTH OF THE GODS Jessica is once again blending her rich cultural heritage with contemporary influences. Inspired by traditional festivals and communal ways of life in the Andean highlands, her choreography draws on the deep connection between Indigenous communities and the Earth. Lucy and I went back to Turkey last week, for the premier of the film version of SUPPLIANTS OF SYRIA. The film is feeling like an ever more important part of this project, not least because of the huge challenges of raising the funds to perform the play in the region where it’s set. I’m determined that we will get it to Adana, where we can share it with the Syrian women who took part, but that goal is still a long way off, and in the meantime we owed it to them to impart some sense of how we’ve been responding to their offer and their work.

It had been some time since I’d looked at the film, so I was able to be more objective about it than is usual when my work first goes in front of audiences.  I’m pleased to say that I was very moved by it – the women’s sharing of personal stories, intercut with the Choruses from the Greek play SUPPLIANTS, is really searing in its honesty. Their acting, the cinematography and the music feel so rooted in that experience that it’s impossible to resist its emotional force. And it’s very exciting to have that put into dialogue with more political and structural considerations – there’s a very theatrical, I guess Brechtian, interplay between the emotional truths and the objective frames around them.

Which said, my own emotional response pales into insignificance beside the reaction of the women themselves. In the Q&A that followed the screening, one of them, Iman, said that the film was “an incredible achievement – but I have been crying all the way through.” I had thought that this was rhetorical, but Lucy, who was sitting amongst them, told me that all of them had been in tears from very early in the film. I suppose there was a lot being re-visited for them all; and there were also new stories they probably did not know, about the personal journeys of their friends who were sitting beside them. There’s a moment in the film where some of them share with me that they had never told the stories before. The frame of the creative project was essential to draw out these incredibly important truths.

Another audience member was a Turkish NGO worker, who said that the film would bring out empathy in its audiences, and this was really important for the ongoing refugee work of her organisation.  I found myself responding that what is needed everywhere – not just in Turkey but also in Europe, America and global – is a new radical empathy as the way past the politics of prejudice.  It’s very hard to hate somebody when you have heard them tell stories like these.  Copyright © 2024 Border Crossings Company Limited, All rights reserved.

We are having a small break from the Creative Monday programme over the next few weeks but will be back on Monday 11 November with the Mind and Soul choir. Further details below and I will be in touch the week before with a reminder email.

At the Gallery it is the final week of our Yoshida: Three Generations of Japanese Printmaking exhibition which will close on Sunday 3 November,  if you haven’t yet got your community welcome pass yet but would like to visit please email us and we can arrange a ticket for you.
