13 April 2023Reducing the impact of stress
Experiencing high levels of stress can impact the mind and body in various ways, including affecting the ability to sleep, and mood. Long-term stress can increase the risks of cardiovascular disease – hypertension, heart attack, and stroke. Relieving stress has been found to improve sleep quality, help with the control of weight, improve mood, and help with having less muscle tension.
To mark April as Stress Awareness Month, the King’s Health Partners (KHP) Mind & Body Programme has collated a selection of wellbeing resources for staff and students across the partnership.

To mark Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, KHP and South East London Cancer Alliance visited King’s College Hospital NHS FT to speak to the bowel cancer screening team. John Royce Maguiza, Specialist Cancer Nurse, and Guy Chung Faye, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Director of the Bowel Cancer Screening Unit, stressed the importance of taking home testing kits if you are sent one for the early detection and treatment of cancer.

The Mind of the Matter mental health video series aims to tackle commonly-found online myths by speaking to leading NHS and academic experts. It is a partnership involving YouTube, and mental health leads at South London and Maudsley NHS FT, KHP, and world-leading university King’s College London.
